Renishaw Coastal Precinct Development Marks New Phase with Petrol Filling Station

The Renishaw Coastal Precinct development has reached another important milestone with the start of bulk services construction for a new petrol filling station, convenience store, and fast-food drive-through at the main entrance to the precinct.

A feature article published by Everything Property explores how the project will support motorists, nearby communities and the growing number of people living and working around Scottburgh. It also considers how the development forms part of wider investment activity across the KZN Mid-South Coast.

The new site will be developed by Hampsons, a locally established business with roots in Scottburgh dating back to 1927.

A New Milestone For The Renishaw Coastal Precinct Development

The filling station will be positioned at the main Renishaw entrance circle on Dududu Road, close to the N2 interchange.

Its location will make it accessible to people entering Scottburgh from the N2, as well as residents of Scottburgh, Amandawe, Clansthal, Scottburgh South, Park Rynie and Renishaw Hills.

The planned development will include:

  • A petrol filling station
  • A convenience store
  • A fast-food drive-through

The start of bulk-services work is a significant step because it prepares the site for future construction while also supporting the infrastructure needed for wider development within the precinct.

This progress shows how the Renishaw Coastal Precinct development is moving from long-term planning and approved land uses towards visible, on-the-ground activity.

How the Renishaw Coastal Precinct Development is Building On A Long Local Business History

Hampsons has operated in Scottburgh since 1927, when the business established the town’s first petrol station. Its local operations now include a BP fuel station, Hampsons Isuzu Dealership and Hampsons Suzuki Dealership at 98 Scott Street.

The new site represents an expansion of that long-standing presence into an area expected to become an important future business district.

Commenting on the investment, Hampsons owner Gareth Hampson described Renishaw Coastal Precinct as a progressive and well-positioned growth area. He also pointed to Renishaw Hills as evidence of the demand and development potential already present within the precinct.

“This is all about the future of Scottburgh, the Mid-South Coast and our business,” said Hampson. “We are proud to be a part of this community and have a long-standing history in Scottburgh, dating back to 1927.”

The involvement of an established local business supports the precinct’s aim of complementing the region’s existing economy rather than developing in isolation from it.

Serving Scottburgh And Surrounding Communities

The new petrol filling station is intended to serve a broad catchment area.

In addition to passing motorists, the site will be accessible to established communities surrounding Scottburgh and residents of Renishaw Hills, the mature lifestyle estate developed during the first phase of the precinct.

Renishaw Hills has already demonstrated the demand for well-planned residential development on the KZN Mid-South Coast. At the time of the Everything Property feature, property values within the estate had increased by 60% since 2016.

The estate’s investment contribution was also recognised by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the fifth South Africa Investment Conference.

By adding everyday services close to residential areas and key transport routes, the Renishaw Coastal Precinct development can improve convenience while helping to attract further residential and commercial investment.

Further Investment Across The Precinct

The petrol filling station is one of several projects contributing to development momentum within Renishaw Coastal Precinct.

The Everything Property feature also highlights:

Advanced negotiations for the construction of a school
The sale of a site to Cubisol Property Fund for a shopping centre
The potential inclusion of apartments within the mixed-use retail site
Further opportunities for local businesses and outside investors

A school within the precinct could make the area more attractive to families and influence future residential property decisions. The proposed shopping centre, meanwhile, would expand access to retail services while supporting the needs of a growing local population.

Together, these developments show how individual transactions can contribute to a more connected mixed-use environment.

The Renishaw Coastal Precinct development is planned across five interconnected nodes, bringing together residential, commercial, educational, recreational and other land uses over the long term.

Supporting Local Economic Growth

Renishaw Coastal Precinct has consciously prioritised working with businesses that already understand the local market.

“This is an important milestone in the precinct’s story as it indicates that there is significant progress being made in realising this area’s potential,” said Barto van der Merwe, MD of Renishaw Coastal Precinct.

He explained that the precinct’s approach is to supplement and strengthen existing business activity while attracting further investment to the region.

This can create several wider benefits:

  • More customers for existing businesses
  • New opportunities for local suppliers and contractors
  • Additional construction and permanent employment
  • Greater investor interest in the KZN Mid-South Coast
  • Improved access to services for nearby communities

The new filling station demonstrates how the Renishaw Coastal Precinct development can support regional growth through practical infrastructure, local partnerships and a broader mix of amenities.

A New Phase In The Precinct’s Long-Term Growth

The petrol filling station marks another step in the gradual development of the 1,300-hectare mixed-use precinct.

Its strategic position near the N2, connection to an established Scottburgh business and role in supporting surrounding communities make it an important addition to the area’s growing commercial infrastructure.

As further sites are developed, the Renishaw Coastal Precinct development is expected to bring together housing, services, education, business and conservation within a coordinated long-term plan for the KZN Mid-South Coast.
