Celebration Marked by Renishaw’s Generous Land Donation

Renishaw Coastal Precinct’s commitment to the community was demonstrated in June 2023 when it donated 142 ha of land for community use to the KwaCele Tribal Council.

At a celebratory gala event marking the inauguration of Chief MR Cele, head of the council, starting in Scottburgh and ending the next day in a tribal celebration in Amandawe, the community was honoured with not only the gift of prime real estate but also with the opportunity to own 10% of Renishaw Coastal Precinct through a buy-out process.

An Event to Remember

The celebratory event was marked by the attendance of key dignitaries, including Renishaw Coastal Precinct representatives and KwaCele Tribal Council members, including the izinduna. The event saw the attendance of Lily Sanya from the United Nations (UN) International Organisation of Migration, as well as Lot Mlati from the UN Food Agriculture Organisation.

Also in attendance were key government officials, such as Dr. Thami Klaasen from the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition. Black Business Federation President Malusi Zondi also patronised the event, along with key representatives from the corporate social investment arms of major private companies such as Coca-Cola and Vodacom.

The event served to not only celebrate the new chief but also the significant contribution made by the Renishaw Coastal Precinct to the economic upliftment of the local community. The event further served as a platform for key stakeholders to engage in important dialogues around further opportunities for partnerships and community development in the region.

A Vision of Growth

At the event, Cele voiced his vision to expand agriculture in the region, along with boosting tourism and facilitating other developmental projects to ensure a more prosperous future for his people and a more meaningful contribution to the economy.

He said that it was necessary to explore partnerships, such as the ones developed between the KwaCele Tribal Council and the Renishaw Coastal Precinct, which will yield jobs, infrastructure improvements and better access to key healthcare and educational facilities, among other benefits.

Renishaw Coastal Precinct’s MD, Barto van der Merwe, noted that such a partnership depended on the establishment and maintenance of shared trust between parties, wherein both benefited from a mutual goal of economic upliftment and better opportunities for all.
